The 46th Chief Justice of India: Officially Announcement by Law Ministry
President Ram Nath Kovind signed warrants of appointment of J. Ranjan Gogoi as a CJI. He is the first person to claim from Northeast.
J. Gogoi appointed as the 46th CJI on Thursday for next 13 months and he would be retired on 17th November, 2019. Announced by the Law Ministry and issue official in Notification.

The journey of J. Gogoi :
J. Gogoi born on 18th November, 1954, and he consequently completed his schooling from DON BOSCO School Dibrugatrth and College from Delhi University’s St. Stephen’s College and after he enrolled as an Advocate in 1978 and started practice from Gauhati High court in Company Laws, Taxation Laws and Constitution area, meanwhile he appointed as Permanent Gauhati High court Judge on 28th February 2001.
Consequently, he transferred to Punjab and Haryana High court on 9th September 2010 and appointed as Chief Justice of P & H High court on 12th February 2011. On next year dated 23rd April 2012 was appointed as Supreme court Judge. That one thing which most of the people don't know is J. Gogoi ’s father is former Chief Minister of Assam.
The topmost story of J. Gogoi is that he is Four out of one the Supreme court judge who calls on a press conference to address issues relating to the allocation of cases in certain courts. Perhaps a first in the history of the Indian judiciary.
Hence on first day after taking oath J. Gogoi changes the emergency Hearing roster and said “As long as no one is being hanged or hanged from the house, the matter will not be immediately heard” as we know that former Chief Justice Deepak Mishra had also made changes in this arrangement while barring the oral mentions of senior advocates.
Chief Justice also issued a new roster on Wednesday for the division of judges' work.
