Now Indian Railway Accept Advocates Id Proof as Identity of Passengers  during Train Journey

As per direction and judgment of Kerala High Court the Indian Railways to treat identity cards issued to Advocates/Lawyers by respective Bar Councils as a valid identity proof undertakes during train journey/travel.

Indian Railway Issued Circular to Accept Advocates Id Proof as Identity of Passengers during Train Journey by Following Kerala High Court Judgment.


The Latest Historic judgment of Kerala High court in WP(C) No. 35073 of 2014,  which is delivered on August 8, 2018 the High Court of Kerala has in directed the Indian Railways to treat identity cards issued to Advocates/lawyers by respective Bar Councils as a valid identity proof to undertake during a train journey/travel.

According to the said judgment The department of Indian railway, Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) on 08th October 2018 issued circular No. 57 of 2018. to accept of Identity Cards issued to Advocates by the Bar Councils of India as proof of identity of passengers for undertaking the journey by trail. Said circular is issued by Shree Sanjay Manocha, Jt. Director Passenger Marketing(Railway Board) to The Principal Chief Commercial Managers – All Zonal Railways.

The circular Para -2, “ In pursuance of a judgment passed by Hon’ ble High Court of Kerala in WP(C) No. 35073 of 2014 the matter has been examined and it has been decided that photo identity Cards with serial number issued to Advocates by the Bar Councils of India may also be accepted as proof of identity of passengers of undertaking Journey by Train.

To avoid inconvenience to passengers the circular publishes widely through all possible means the Para - 3 of Circular refers as “ Necessary instruction may be issued to all concerned to avoid inconvenience to the passengers. Wide publicity through all possible means should be given to this revised provision for information of general public.
