TWO YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT TO THEN MEMBER, BAR COUNCIL OF INDIA AND FOUR YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT TO A RAILWAY OFFICIAL IN SEPARATE CASES

The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Panchkula (Haryana) has sentenced Sh. Daulat Ram Sharma, then member Bar Council of India, New Delhi to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 30,000/-.
CBI had registered a case on 18.04.2011 U/s 120 B of IPC and Section 7, 12, 13(2) r/w 13 (1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 against two members of Bar Council of India and a Vice Chairman of Swami Devi Dyal Law College, Panchkula (Haryana). The case was registered on allegations that the accused persons in criminal conspiracy with each other demanded a bribe of Rs. 1.25 lakh from the Vice Chairman of a law college, for giving favorable inspection report for the continuance of law courses in the college located at Barwala (Haryana).
After a thorough investigation, a charge sheet was filed against the accused persons. During the trial of the case, one member of the Bar Council of India expired.
In another case, the Special Judge CBI Cases, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), has sentenced Sh. Mahendra Singh Thakur, then Office Superintendent (Personnel), West Central Railway, Bina, District Sagar (Madhya Pradesh) to undergo four years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 75,000 in a Disproportionate Assets case.
CBI investigation revealed that during the check period from 01.07.2005 to 25.10.2010, Sh. Mahendra Singh Thakur had acquired assets which were disproportionate to the extent of Rs. 48,67,781/- (approx.) to his known sources of income. After an investigation, a charge sheet was filed on 31.10.2011, against the accused in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh).
The Trial Court found the accused persons guilty and convicted them.
